President Cyril Ramaphosa says, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who has been placed on special leave, did not consult him about the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
He says Mchunu only informed him about the disbandment of the PKTT in February last year, despite issuing the directive to disband the PKTT with immediate effect on the 31st of December 2024.
This is contained in the responses by the President to the Ad Hoc Committee looking into concerns of national security.
The President says he conveyed his dissatisfaction at not having been consulted prior to the decision being taken.
Ramaphosa goes on further to say that when Mchunu told the Ad Hoc Committee that he was in agreement with the disbandment, he didn’t comment on it.
Ramaphosa says he didn’t want to preempt the work of the committee and he expected all the allegations to be dealt with procedurally.
