Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya says no one in the municipality who’s implicated in acts of corruption will receive special treatment or protection.
Moya has placed her colleague and party member ActionSA councillor and MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Kholofelo Morodi on special leave with immediate effect.
This after evidence at the Madlanga Commission allegedly showed her sharing internal tender documents with current witness and police sergeant Fannie Nkosi.
Moya says action will be taken against those proven guilty.
“If there are any members of council who, or administration that have been found wanting, we will write to Judge Madlanga just to get the information on how we deal with it because we can’t say we will wait till the commission is concluded.”
The suspension comes after WhatsApp messages that were read at the commission as evidence about a security tender implicated ActionSA, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) politicians and City of Tshwane, Chief Financial Officer Gareth Mnisi.
The official opposition in Tshwane, the DA, has welcomed Morodi’s suspension.
Political analyst Dr Levy Ndou, says the damning corruption allegations are concerning and reflects just how deep the administration cracks are in Tshwane. “It is worrying especially for the citizens who are supposed to get the services that they deserve.”
Dr Moya confirmed that MMC Hannes Coetzee, also from ActionSA, will take over Morodi’s responsibilities pending investigations.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen what action will be taken against others, like the Tshwane CFO, Gareth Mnisi who is also mentioned at the Madlanga Commission alongside certain EFF politicians.
