Deputy President Paul Mashatile has denied claims made at the Madlanga Commission that he met with attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The claims were made by a member of SAPS Gauteng’s organised crime unit, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, earlier today before the Commission.
Sergeant Nkosi told the Commission that Matlala had called him requesting the return of his bank card because he was going to meet with Mashatile and General Shadrack Sibiya.
But Mashatile has, in a statement, disputed the claims, stating that he does not know the individuals referenced in the testimony, and has never had any association or dealings with them.
Mashatile’s acting spokesperson, Keith Khoza, elaborates, “Of significance is that the Deputy President does not know the individual referred to in the testimony and has never had any association or dealings with them. Greater significance is that the Deputy President was out of the country at the time that Mr Matlala purportedly met with him or intended to do so.”

Meanwhile, the Madlanga Commission has heard how attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, told Sergeant Fannie Nkosi to inform suspended deputy police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya that police were raiding his house.
In the text message, Matlala tells Nkosi to inform “our main guy” that the police are raiding his house.
When probed about why Sibiya is referred to as “our main guy”, Nkosi told the commission that he didn’t know.
