2 convicted in murder-for-hire plot of US-Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad » The Hoima Post –
Two men have been convicted in a murder-for-hire scheme targeting an Iranian-American journalist at her Brooklyn home.
A federal jury in New York found Rafat Amirov and Polad Omarov guilty of plotting to assassinate reporter Masih Alinejad in July 2022. They face decades in prison.
Prosecutors said Iran’s government funded the plot and targeted Ms Alinejad over her campaigns against the mandatory wearing of headscarves for Iranian women.
Iran’s government, which has been accused in several plots targeting Ms Alinejad, has called such allegations “ridiculous and baseless”.
The two men, who prosecutors said were Russian mobsters, were found guilty on charges that included murder for hire, firearms possession and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The Manhattan jury returned their verdict after deliberating for just over three hours following a two-week trial.
Prosecutors said Iran attempted several times over the years to silence and threaten Ms Alinejad, including a failed kidnap plot that led to the arrest of four Iranian intelligence officials in 2021.
When those efforts failed, they put a $500,000 (£385,793) bounty out for her killing, the US government said.
After the verdict, Ms Alinejad, who worked for Voice of America after leaving Iran in 2009, said she was “bombarded with emotions”.
“I have cried, I have laughed, I have even danced. Because today is not just about my survival; it is about the defeat and humiliation of a regime that believes it can silence its critics with bullets,” said Ms Alinejad, who was not in court, in a statement.
“They failed. I am still here. And I will keep fighting until every criminal in that regime faces their reckoning.”

The Looming Danger of a Political Dynasty » The Hoima Post –

Uganda is witnessing a critical shift that could determine its political and democratic future. With the recent appointment of new leadership in the Internal Security Organization (ISO) and the confirmation of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the ruling party’s presidential candidate for 2026, the country appears to be steering toward an era of political dynasty under the Museveni family.
A Calculated Power Consolidation?
On April 1, 2025, a press release from State House announced the appointment of Mr. Arthur Mugyenyi as the new Director General of ISO and Mr. Tony Kinyera Apecu as the Deputy Director General. This comes at a time when Uganda’s political climate is heating up, with growing opposition to President Museveni’s prolonged rule. The replacement of key security personnel just ahead of an election raises serious concerns. Is the intelligence sector being reshaped to serve political interests rather than national security?
A few hours later, a verified report confirmed that Museveni has officially endorsed his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the presidential candidate for the 2026 elections. This marks a significant turning point—an overt attempt to transition power within the family, rather than allowing a democratic contest.
Uganda’s Future at Stake
The implications of these developments are dire. The appointment of new intelligence leadership suggests a strategic move to tighten state control. The fear is that ISO, known for monitoring political dissent, may be used to suppress opposition voices ahead of the elections. With Uganda’s history of political arrests, harassment of journalists, and suppression of protests, this could mean a darker period for civil liberties.
If Muhoozi succeeds in his bid for presidency, Uganda risks falling into a monarchical-style leadership—where power is no longer contested but inherited. This raises a troubling question: will Uganda ever break free from this cycle, or will it slide further into autocracy?
Will Uganda Stand Up?
For decades, Ugandans have endured an administration that has silenced critics and extended its rule through constitutional amendments and heavy security crackdowns. The people have repeatedly attempted to stand up—through protests, political mobilization, and resistance. However, with each uprising, the regime has responded with force.
Yet, history shows that no dictatorship lasts forever. While the state strengthens its grip, the youth and the oppressed masses are growing restless. With access to digital platforms, civic education, and global support for democracy, Uganda still has a fighting chance. The key question remains: will the people mobilize effectively before it’s too late?
The Road Ahead
If this political shift is not challenged, Uganda could enter a prolonged era of authoritarianism under a political dynasty. The need for unity among opposition leaders, active participation in civic education, and international pressure on governance is more crucial than ever. The time to decide Uganda’s fate is now.
Will Ugandans allow this transition to happen, or will they rise against it? The choice lies with the people.

Uganda’s Inescapable Descent into a Full-Blown Family Kleptocracy » The Hoima Post –

The facts are undeniable: Uganda is no longer a republic—it is a private estate run by the Museveni dynasty. Every critical institution—the military, intelligence, finance, education, and foreign affairs—has been systematically handed over to family members, loyalists from one region, and political cronies. The situation is beyond repair because the very system designed to hold power accountable has been cannibalized to serve one man and his bloodline.
1. The Military & Security: A Family Army
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), police, and intelligence are no longer national institutions—they are Museveni’s private militia. His son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, now commands the entire military, while cousins, brothers, and in-laws dominate key units:
Special Forces Command (SFC) – Museveni’s personal guard, now led by Muhoozi’s allies.
Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) – Infested with relatives and tribesmen.
Police & ISO – Headed by men like Jim Muhwezi (Janet’s cousin), who specialize in crushing dissent.
What does this mean? The guns are no longer for Uganda—they are for protecting the Museveni empire. Any attempt at change through elections or protests is doomed because the trigger fingers belong to the family.
2. Government Institutions: A Family Business
From education (Janet) to finance (Kutesa clan) to security (Muhwezi cartel), every ministry is a feeding trough for the first family.
Janet Museveni runs education like her personal fiefdom, while schools crumble.
Sam Kutesa (Muhoozi’s father-in-law) looted foreign affairs for years.
Salim Saleh (Museveni’s brother) has been at the center of every major corruption scandal—from ghost soldiers to shady oil deals.
This isn’t governance—it’s organized theft. And because the judiciary, parliament, and anti-corruption bodies are also captured, no one can stop it.
3. The Illusion of Democracy
Museveni has perfected the art of fake democracy. Elections are held, but:
The Electoral Commission is staffed by his appointees.
Opposition leaders are arrested, tortured, or killed.
The military openly intimidates voters.
Even when Bobi Wine posed a real threat in 2021, the response was mass arrests, internet shutdowns, and over 100 murders. Why? Because Museveni knows his family’s wealth and power depend on never leaving office.
4. Where Does This Lead? A Hereditary Dictatorship
The writing is on the wall: Muhoozi is being groomed to take over. His MK Movement is not a joke—it’s a soft launch for dynasty succession.
He insults neighboring leaders, threatens invasions, and openly campaigns—yet faces no consequences.
The military, already stuffed with his loyalists, will ensure a “smooth transition.”
The West won’t intervene because Museveni is a “strategic ally” in the war on terror.
Uganda is not sliding into dictatorship—it’s already there. The only difference now is that the crown is being passed to the son.
Conclusion: No Peaceful Way Out
Let’s be brutally honest: Uganda cannot be fixed through elections or reforms anymore. The system is too rotten, too militarized, and too deeply entrenched. The opposition is fragmented, infiltrated, or terrorized into submission. The economy is structured to enrich the ruling clique while the masses suffer.
What’s next?
More repression as Muhoozi’s rise accelerates.
More looting as the family tightens its grip on oil money.
More international silence because Museveni is useful to global powers.
The only remaining question is: How long will Ugandans tolerate this before real resistance erupts? Because history shows—no dynasty lasts forever.
The Museveni era will end. The only uncertainty is how bloody that end will be.
