President Museveni Introduces New Judiciary Appointments, Including Swearing-in of Hon. Justice Dr. Asa Mugenyi
On Thursday at State House-Entebbe, His Excellency, President Museveni introduced two Supreme Court Justices: the Hon. Justice Catherine Bamugemereire and Hon. Justice Monica Kalyegira Mugenyi.
Additionally, the President welcomed the Hon. Justice Margaret Tibulya and Hon. Justice Kazibwe Moses Kawumi from the Court of Appeal.
Furthermore, the Hon. Justice Dr. Asa Mugenyi was sworn in as a Court of Appeal judge during the ceremony.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni extended congratulations to the new judges and expressed satisfaction with the stability within the country and its institutions. He noted the positive trend of younger judges entering the judiciary and highlighted the importance of this for the country’s development.
President Museveni reiterated his support for Alternative Dispute Resolution and commended the Chief Justice’s efforts towards harmonization in the justice system.
Vice President H.E Jessica Alupo praised President Museveni’s commitment to managing all arms of government and emphasized the importance of combating corruption.
Chief Justice His Lordship Alfonse Owiny-Dollo thanked President Museveni for strengthening the judiciary and expressed confidence in the new appointees. He also lauded the President for increasing the judiciary’s budget.
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Hon. Norbert Mao congratulated the new justices and emphasized the merit-based appointment process.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Justice His Lordship Richard Buteera, Principal Judge Hon. Dr. Flavian Zeija, Judiciary Permanent Secretary Mr. Pius Bigirimana, Chief Registrar Her Worship Sarah Langa Siu, among others.
