Hon. Magyezi Reviews LEGS Project Achievements as Completion Nears

By: Lawrence Mubiru
With the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) project set to close on December 31, 2025, Local Government Minister Hon. Raphael Magyezi has begun a field tour to assess its impact in Kibuku, Kumi, Nwoya, and Katakwi districts. The project, implemented in 17 districts, has delivered major improvements in water systems, rural markets, roads, agricultural value chains, and renewable energy—funded by the Government of Uganda, Islamic Development Bank, Lives and Livelihoods Fund, and local communities.

In Kibuku, the Minister inspected the soon-to-be-commissioned Kadama Weekly Market and visited the Buseta Milk Collection Centre, which now has a 5,000-liter cooling tank, tractors, artificial insemination services, and a rapidly growing cooperative membership.
In Kumi, he checked progress on the 250-million-liter Kajamaka Earth Dam (89% complete), high-yield boreholes, and the Kanapa solar-powered piped water system currently serving eight parishes.
Hon. Magyezi has directed district leaders to compile detailed reports on project achievements, community engagement, and sustainability to inform the possibility of a second phase LEGS 2 and guide future government interventions.
