Bevis Mugabi Finds New Home In Cyprus

Uganda Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi has joined Cypriot first division side Anorthosis Famagusta, following the expiry of his contract with Motherwell in Scotland.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year contract with The Phoenix, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The towering defender had spent weeks now without a club, after departing Motherwell, where he had spent five seasons, in which he made upto 125 appearances for the Steelmen since joining them from Yeovil Town.

Mugabi’s new team is one of the founding clubs of the Cyprus Football Association in 1934. The club is a part of the Anorthosis Famagusta multi-sport club founded in 1911 in Varosha, Famagusta.

Anorthosis Famagusta is also simply known as Anorthosis in English, or Anorthosi in Greek – interchangeably reffered to as ‘The Old Lady’ or ‘The Phoenix’.

They host their games at the Antoni’s Papadopoulos Stadium, they primarily compete in the Cypriot First Division and the Cypriot Cup.
