On July 25, 2024, Police in Rukungiri Municipality conducted an intelligence-led operation in response to an increase in vehicle number plate thefts. The operation led to the arrest of suspects (Mujuni Brian and Arinaitwe Anthony) The operation also to the recovery of the following stolen vehicle number plates UAS 842V, stolen in June 2024 UBQ 0131T, stolen in June 2024 UBA 458C, stolen on July 20, 2024 UBD 908K, stolen on July 20, 2024 UBB 279S, stolen on July 21, 2024. The stolen number plates were recovered with the help of the arrested suspects. The operation is ongoing. To combat this trend, car owners are advised to use vehicle tracking devices and fleet monitoring systems.
