Sunday, August 11*Vipers 1-0 Select Team – Semifinal*KCCA (4)0-0(2) Maroons – Ranking match
Vipers SC secured their place in the final of the FUFA Super 8 after a narrow 1-0 victory over the FUFA Select team in a tense semifinal encounter on Sunday at the Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The match remained goalless until stoppage time when Allan Okello stepped up as the hero for the Venoms, scoring the decisive goal.
The buildup to the goal saw Vipers’ captain Milton Karisa thread a pass inside the box, which Okello coolly slotted past the FUFA Select goalkeeper, Bashir Sekagya.
Vipers has proved the better side with numerous chances, and Okello had earlier come close to breaking the deadlock twice with two well-executed free kicks.
The Venoms’ persistence paid off in the dying moments, and their victory was well-earned after a hard-fought battle.
With this win, Vipers advance to the FUFA Super 8 final, where they will face BUL who earned their spot in the final after defeating Kitara FC in the other semifinal on Saturday.
Vipers will be aiming to claim their second Super 8 title, having won the tournament in 2019 when they defeated KCCA FC in the final at Wankulukuku.
Unlike the previous quarterfinal round, the Semifinals have been played under a single-leg format.
In a ranking fixture, KCCA edged Maroons in shootout after playing the whole second half a man down after Mustafa Mujuzi was sent off earlier.
The final, between Vipers and BUL, will be played on Sunday, September 1 at Lugogo.
