SC Villa’s journey in the CAF Champions League came to an early end as they were eliminated in the first preliminary round by Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE).

The Ugandan giants were knocked out on a 3-2 aggregate after a 1-1 draw in the return leg at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead in the 64th minute through full-back Suleiman Hamid, putting SC Villa in a difficult position.

However, 15 minutes later, Patrick Jonah Kakande leveled the score for Villa from the penalty spot, giving the Jogoos a glimmer of hope.

Despite their efforts, SC Villa couldn’t find the crucial second goal needed to push the match into a penalty shootout.

Villa’s elimination was compounded by their failure to capitalize on home advantage in the first leg, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Namboole.

CBE will now advance to the second preliminary round, where they will face Tanzanian side Young Africans, who secured their spot by defeating Burundi’s Vital’o.
