The third edition of the End of Year Primary Schools Sports Gala wrapped up on Wednesday at Ntenjeru Ssaza Grounds, with debutants Medinah Islamic Primary School stealing the show in remarkable fashion. The Nsangi-based school dominated both netball and football, announcing their arrival with a double triumph in the U14 categories.
Medinah sealed the boys’ U14 football title after a decisive 2–0 victory over defending champions Kanjuki Junior School in the final round of the round-robin fixtures. Coming into the match with seven points, Kanjuki only needed a draw to retain their crown. But Medinah, who were on six points and needed nothing but a win, rose to the occasion with a commanding display that dethroned the champions.

Earlier, St. Mark Junior School had blown the chance to top the standings after being held to a goalless draw by Francesta, finishing on eight points. That result opened the door for Medinah, who grabbed the opportunity with both hands to seal the championship.
In the U12 football category, Medinah were denied a treble after Kanjuki edged them 3–2 on penalties following a goalless stalemate in normal time—claiming their second consecutive U12 title.
Kanjuki Junior School, champions U12 [Football] This year’s edition attracted eight schools, up from the previous six, and expanded to include U12 and U14 netball competitions featuring four teams. Medinah Islamic added the U14 netball title to their trophy cabinet, while Namagabi UMEA clinched the U12 crown.

Participating schools included Janan Junior School Bombo, Francesta, Perfect Junior School, Namagabi UMEA, Kanjuki Junior School, St. Mark Junior School, Nateta CU, Joy and Jolly, and Medinah Islamic.
St. Mark Schools and Kanjuki Junior School have been the driving force behind the tournament over the last two editions. According to Aron Bukenya, Director of St. Mark Schools, the fourth edition will come with improvements—including the introduction of prize money.

“Such primary schools tournaments help us scout players. It’s hard to find good players already in secondary school, but these competitions give us that platform. Next year, we want to make the tournament even better—with prize money added,” Bukenya revealed.
Tournament founder and Director of Kanjuki Junior School, Isa Ntale, emphasized that the initiative was born out of the need to increase playing time and talent exposure for pupils.
“As primary schools, we have very few sporting events in a year. We started this tournament to give our players more matches, help them develop talent, and build social capital,” he said.
Voice of Bugerere served as the official media partner for the event.
Medinah Islamic’s commanding debut ensures their name will be one to watch when the fourth edition returns next year.
