By Andama mosesIn Masindiwww.mknewslink.comHealth experts in Masindi have revealed that cancer of the cervix can be transmitted through sex.This was said by Gilbert Alinaitwe, a nursing officer working with Masindi general hospital while sensitising students on reproductive health justice at Bright Horizon High school in Masindi municipality on Wednesday.
In a meeting organised by Action for social and economic development (AASED), Alinaitwe noted that research shows that the papilloma virus which causes cancer of the cervix can be transmitted through sex warning the learners to abstain.
“If there is a lady with the virus and sleeps with a man, the virus shall be carried to another, the prevention measure is having protected sex and also immunization vaccination (HPV vaccine) normally given to ladies of 10 years,” Alinaitwe warns.
He also advised to use ABC strategy in order to reduce on risks of acquiring Sexual transmitted diseases (STD’S) HIV and unplanned pregnancies as they head to prolonged holiday in their respective places.
Alinaitwe urged all students to always go for free services at all government facilities rather than going through hard situations.
Morris Ogenyi executive director AASED says the purpose of senstizing the learners is to create awareness on their reproductive health justice and using creative means like drama which keeps participants active and also participatory in the issues highlighted in the drama itself.
In the same event, health workers carried out free testing of hepatitis B, HIV, sickle cells among others.
