Goodbye Midigo, Jimmy Kintu Runs Away from Calvary

By Kayiira Jackson
Calvary FC have confirmed the departure of head coach Jimmy Kintu, following a string of poor results and challenges both on and off the pitch.
Kintu joined the Midigo-based club on a two-year contract from St. Noa Girls Zana, who were debuting in the FUFA Women Super League at the time. He was appointed as a replacement for Simon Otim, the coach who led Calvary to a historic promotion to the Uganda Premier League last season.
However, Kintu’s tenure has been far from smooth, as the team has struggled to find its footing in the top flight. Calvary have lost four of their first five matches, managing only a single draw — a 1–1 result against Maroons at Luzira.
Their losses include a 3–1 defeat to Lugazi, 2–0 loss to Buhimba Saints, a 4–2 loss to KCCA FC, and another 4–2 setback to Entebbe UPPC FC, leaving the club languishing near the bottom of the table.
Before joining Calvary, Kintu had coaching stints with Kyetume FC and Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the University Football League, where he was praised for his tactical discipline and player development skills.
In an official statement, the club confirmed that it has embarked on the search for a new head coach to guide the team through the remainder of the season.
Calvary fans will now be hoping the managerial change will spark a turnaround in fortunes as the team looks to stabilize its campaign and avoid relegation battles in its maiden Uganda Premier League season.
