KABAROLE DISTRICT CELEBRATES 16DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST DIGITALVIOLENCE ON WOMEN AND GIRLS

Kabarole District in affiliation with Mugusu Sub County has today joined the rest of the world to celebrate the ongoing 16-day campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of digital violence against women and girls.
The event, organized by Nest of Care and generously funded by the Children’s Rights Violation Prevention Fund, brought together local leaders, activists, and community members to take a stand against this growing threat.
The campaign aimed to educate the public about the impact of digital violence on women and girls, including online harassment, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
The 16 days of activism 2025 which began on 25th November is under the theme “end digital violence against all women and girls”Director TOCI- Uganda Mrs. Sylvia Amanyire voiced the call to action against digital violence, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to protect women and girls from online abuse. According to reports, digital violence against women and girls is on the rise in Uganda.
The campaign highlights the importance of stronger laws and enforcement to address digital violence, as well as regional cooperation with tech companies to enhance accountability and safety online.
She said that by working together, communities can create safer online spaces for women and girls, promoting equality and empowerment.
Ssemanda Francis, working with the Organization for the Conservation of Environment and Development in Uganda (OCODEWO) said that they are also pushing for greater awareness and education about digital rights and online safety, particularly among women and girls.
Jacinta Mbabazi, the Mugusu Sub-County Chief, attributed the voice to parents who buy Smartphone’s to their children without monitoring the usage.
According to Jacinta, many parents are unaware of the content their children are accessing online, which can exposure them to harmful and violent material.The OC Mugusu Police Post Brian Asiimwe, cautioned the public against posting content on social media that violates the rights of others.
According to Asiimwe, individuals found guilty of posting defamatory, obscene, or inflammatory content on social media will face arrest and prosecution.
