The Liaoshen Industrial Park in Kapeeka Nakaseke district has celebrated 10 years of transforming Uganda’s economy through job creation and import substitution through industrialization.
The 10 years anniversary which was celebrated in Saturday was held under the theme Transforming Africa’s Economy through Sustainable Industrialization, Regional Integration and Innovation”.
According to Industrial Park General Manager Shadia Nampomba, the complex, now home to 34 factories with a target of 80, has created jobs, improved infrastructure, strengthened import substitution, boosted exports, and sparked massive land value appreciation in the area.
Celebrations featured an impressive exhibition from more than 34 factories operating within the park, showcasing a diverse range of locally manufactured products such as soap, cooking oil, curtains and other textiles, televisions, and value-added agricultural products including processed pineapples and mangoes.During the event, the Operation Wealth Creation Chief Coordinator Gen. Salim Saleh who is also the key architect behind the park’s creation, took time to reflect on its growth and progress from a forested area to the current industrial park.Gen Saleh who said that the Park has currently created jobs to over 36,000 Ugandans.Gen.Saleh however challenged the area leaders to mobilize the community to double their agricultural production so as to fully supply raw materials to the industrial Park.Ramadan Goobi the Permanent Secretary for the ministry of finance said the industrial park model is the most appropriate for countries like Uganda because it concentrates infrastructure such as power,roads and water in a particular area making it attractive for investors to set up industries.During the event, Gen Saleh was praised for turning government policy and framework into action
