KAMPALA — Kakungulu Memorial Secondary School Kibuli is on the verge of appointing experienced coaches Bright Nyanzi and Ismail Mukiibi as it steps up efforts to revive its football fortunes, with a renewed focus on girls’ football.
According to sources close to the development, the former Kampala and national football powerhouse is seeking to reclaim its lost glory, this time by investing strategically in the women’s game. Kakungulu Memorial was among the dominant forces in schools football in the early 2000s before its influence gradually waned.
School administrators believe the duo’s extensive experience in girls’ football makes them the ideal candidates to spearhead the project. Nyanzi and Mukiibi boast over eight years of involvement in the women’s game, a factor that has reportedly convinced the school’s top management of their suitability for the task.
Their potential arrival is seen as a direct response to the current dominance of regional powerhouses Kawempe Muslim Secondary School and Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, who have set the benchmark in girls’ school football in Kampala and beyond.
Sources further indicate that Kakungulu Memorial is offering Nyanzi a one-year contract, with a clear performance target of qualifying for the national schools championship scheduled to be hosted by Seroma Christian High School in Mukono.
If completed, the appointments would mark a significant step in Kakungulu Memorial’s ambition to re-establish itself as a competitive force in schools football, signaling a bold shift towards long-term development of girls’ football at the institution.
