Security Forces Surround Bobi Wine’s Home, Place Opposition Leader and Wife Under De Facto House Arrest » The Hoima Post –

Ugandan security forces have surrounded the residence of President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, widely known as Bobi Wine, in what opposition figures and rights advocates describe as a de facto house arrest.
According to accounts from the National Unity Platform (NUP) and witnesses at the scene, heavily armed military and police officers sealed off the perimeter of Kyagulanyi’s home, restricting all movement in and out of the compound. Security personnel reportedly jumped over the perimeter fence without consent and began erecting tents inside the private residence, signaling an indefinite deployment.
Kyagulanyi and his wife were inside the home at the time of the operation. No arrest warrant, court order, or official explanation was publicly presented to justify the action, raising serious legal and constitutional concerns. Lawyers and civil society voices argue that the move violates basic rights, including the right to liberty, privacy, and freedom of movement.
“This is not security—it is intimidation,” opposition sources said, describing the operation as part of a broader pattern of harassment targeting opposition leaders, especially during politically sensitive periods. Similar security deployments have previously accompanied elections, protests, or major political announcements, often drawing condemnation from local and international human rights organizations.
The presence of tents within the compound suggests preparations for a prolonged siege, further escalating tensions. Residents in the surrounding area reported restricted access, increased patrols, and roadblocks, effectively turning the neighborhood into a security zone.
As of publication, the Uganda Police Force and military authorities had not issued an official statement explaining the operation or its legal basis. Calls from rights groups for transparency and restraint continue to grow, with renewed demands for authorities to respect the rule of law and constitutional safeguards.
The situation remains fluid, with supporters and observers closely monitoring developments amid fears of further escalation and renewed concerns over political freedoms in Uganda.
