The Diocese of Kigezi has hailed the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, for his stance against homosexuality and lesbianism within the Church of Uganda, saying it demonstrates God’s work among Christians.
The remarks were made in a farewell message delivered by the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, as the diocese concluded its Annual Brethren Conference at the Rugarama Convention Site in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality.
Bishop Akanjuna commended the Archbishop for providing strong spiritual leadership that, according to the diocese, remains faithful to Scripture and the traditions of the Church of Uganda. He noted that the Archbishop’s stance on matters of doctrine reflects obedience to God’s Word and offers clear guidance to Christians across the country.
The Bishop highlighted the Archbishop’s approach of rebuking and encouraging believers with patience and careful instruction rooted in biblical teaching and practice. He said the leadership has consistently called the Church to repentance, holiness, and obedience to God’s Word.
Bishop Akanjuna also thanked the Archbishop for standing firm during the COVID-19 period, describing the time as challenging but noting that the Archbishop provided guidance, stability, and encouragement to the Church.
He emphasized that the Church of Uganda continues to stand firm on biblical truth and expressed appreciation to Archbishop Kaziimba for leading the Church with clarity, faith, and commitment to Scripture.
In his response, Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu expressed gratitude for the appreciation and reminded believers that the Church of Uganda Constitution requires an Archbishop to retire upon attaining 65 years of age. He said he will reach the retirement age on 15th August next year, marking the end of his tenure as Archbishop.
The Archbishop noted that he assumed office at a time when the country was battling the COVID-19 pandemic, which he described as a major challenge at the beginning of his leadership, but one that strengthened his faith and commitment to serving the Church.
