Lango Clan Head Calls for Unity and Reconciliation Following the Recent Elections

By Mukembo Wilfred

Fredrick Ogwal Oyee, the clan Chief of Inomo and Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Foundation, has issued a passionate appeal for unity and reconciliation among the Lango Community, urging them to move beyond political differences and work collectively for development.

Speaking in his capacity as a respected cultural and traditional leader, Ogwal Oyee emphasized that political elections are seasonal, yet the need for unity is enduring.

“We are largely done with the recent elections. It is now time to focus on unity and hard work among our people,” he stated. “Politics should not leave people hating one another because it is seasonal. Politics comes and goes, but after politics, life has to move on.”

Ogwal Oyee directed a significant portion of his message to elected officials, particularly Members of Parliament and district leaders from the Lango sub-region. He urged them to prioritize the needs of their constituents over personal gain.

“I call upon the elected Lango MPs and district and city leaders to prioritize the needs of the Lango people above their self-interests,” he said. He called for togetherness among leaders, encouraging them to collaborate on developmental projects and speak with “one common voice” in Parliament and Councils on matters affecting the region.

He further advised leaders to work inclusively, advising them to “work with those who did not go through and also give time to those who won for effective service delivery.”

The clan leader also tasked the Lango community with prioritizing the education of their children as a cornerstone for future prosperity. “The people of Lango must prioritize educating their children for future prosperity”, he noted.

With the rainy season approaching, Ogwal Oyee advised community members to “desist from laziness, over consumption of alcohol, and embrace hard work,” encouraging them to cultivate perennial crops to ensure improved sustainable income and economic stability.

Ogwal Oyee currently serves as the Interim Paramount Chief of the Lango Cultural Foundation, following the passing of the former Won Nyaci, Yosam Odur Ebii. His appeal is seen as a significant effort to heal divisions and steer public focus toward sustainable development and cultural cohesion.

Early reactions from community elders and local residents suggest broad support for the leader’s message, with many expressing hopes that his call will mark a turning point in regional cooperation and post-election reconciliation.
