Uganda Premier League side Express FC has appointed Robert Lubega as its new Head of Communications, replacing Mugerwa Jeremiah, who recently secured a placement in the FUFA Licensing Department.
Lubega, a primary school teacher by profession, brings with him vast experience in youth football administration and sports organization. He has built much of his reputation working at grassroots level and currently serves as Head of Events and Protocol at the Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA). He also works with the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) as a Technical Commissioner.
Before his appointment, Lubega had already been serving Express FC behind the scenes, particularly in the ground management department. His elevation to the communications role was confirmed following an Executive Committee meeting held over the weekend at Ham Stadium, Nakivubo, where club leaders resolved to entrust him with the position.
Express FC, one of the oldest and most decorated clubs in Ugandan football, has won a record seven Uganda Premier League titles. However, in recent years, the Nakivubo-based club has endured difficult times both on and off the pitch, largely attributed to persistent financial challenges.
On the sporting front, the Red Eagles are currently placed 10th on the league table with 16 points, a position that falls short of the club’s historic standards.
Lubega’s appointment comes at a critical moment as Express FC seeks to stabilize its structures, improve communication, and reconnect with its fan base amid ongoing rebuilding efforts.
