Debutants Namagabi Secondary School have declared themselves ready to compete at the 2026 Elite Schools Championship, with head coach Sharif Lulenzi expressing confidence in his rejuvenated squad despite recent setbacks.
Speaking after a buildup match against a boys’ team, Lulenzi revealed that the friendly was aimed at sharpening the team ahead of the highly competitive tournament.

“We have tried to prepare well for the championship, and today we managed to have a buildup match against a boys’ team to polish and correct the minor errors we have been making. Yes, the team lost at least three players, but we have groomed the young ones and I believe we shall perform well in the Elite Schools Championship,” Lulenzi said on Monday.
This will be Namagabi SS’ first appearance at the Elite Schools Championship, a competition that started in 2019 and brings together the top eight schools from the previous year’s Ball Games I and II. Namagabi secured their historic slot after finishing seventh last year, earning an automatic qualification.
The 2026 edition will be hosted at Janan Secondary School in Bombo from 26th February to 1st March.
Team assistant captain Nakabugo Martha echoed her coach’s optimism, warning critics not to underestimate the side.

“We have got enough training from our coaches. As players, we are ready to go and showcase our potential. People always doubt us, and we know that very well, but we shall play our game and compete,” Nakabugo stated.
Although the netball draws are yet to be conducted, eight schools have confirmed participation. They include defending champions Buddo SS, returning giants St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende—back after missing three editions—debutants Namungo Seed Secondary School, Kajjansi Progressive, Kawanda SS (invited), hosts Janan Secondary School, Namagabi SS, and St Francis Busunju.
With momentum building and belief high within the camp, Namagabi SS will be eager to mark their maiden appearance with a statement performance and prove they belong among the elite.
