KZN legislature ready for official opening in Pietermaritzburg

The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature says all preparations have been completed for the official opening of the house in Pietermaritzburg.
Speaker Nontembeko Boyce addressed the media in Durban on the state of readiness for the two-day programme.
AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini will officially open the legislature on Thursday, marking the start of the third session of the seventh term of the KZN legislature.
On Friday, Premier Thami Ntuli will table his State of the Province Address, outlining the service delivery priorities during the election year.
Speaker Boyce says all logistics, security and accessibility measures are in place.
“In planning for this event, we have exercised fiscal discipline. As an oversight institution, we must lead by example. The budget for the 2026 Official Opening and SOPA has been carefully managed to ensure cost-effectiveness while preserving the dignity and constitutional significance of the occasion. Expenditure covers essential services including infrastructure, audio-visual set-up, transport, security, catering and communications.”
