The ActionSA in Ekurhuleni says it plans to write to Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa soon to ask him to look at the possibility of placing the city under administration.
This comes after Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza reshuffled his cabinet. He is facing criticism after Speaker Dorah Mlambo resigned following her appointment to the mayoral committee.
ActionSA says the Mayor’s unilateral decisions are plunging the city into chaos.
The party’s Ekurhuleni Caucus Chief Whip, Siyanda Makhubo, says it would be in the best interest of the residents for the Mayor to step down.
“Or to ask that his own political party recall him from the current position that he holds. Because he demonstrated over a period of three months, we’ve had at least 15 people occupying the position of an MMC, chief whip, chairperson, and council. We’ve had three different speakers in a period of two to three months, and that is extraordinary, and that creates instability, and employees are starting to worry and panic. And that is why we of the view that both the MEC and the Minister must look into it.”
