BOMBO — Bukedea Comprehensive School maintained their unbeaten run in the Elite Schools Championship with a composed 2–0 victory over hosts Janan Secondary School to seal a place in the quarterfinals.
The win, their second in three Group C outings, propelled the Eastern Region giants to the top of the table with seven points, confirming their status as serious title contenders.
The first half at Janan Secondary School main ground offered little to separate the two sides, with both teams locked in a tense midfield battle that ended in a barren stalemate. However, the East Africa champions returned from the break with renewed purpose and attacking intent.
Their persistence paid off when Eric Isabirye broke the deadlock, calmly slotting home to silence the home crowd. With Janan pushing forward in search of a response, Bukedea remained disciplined and lethal on the counter. Godi Musa Akbar later sealed the victory in style, putting the result beyond doubt and sparking celebrations on the visitors’ bench.
Bukedea’s campaign began with a hard-fought 2–2 draw against Mentor Secondary School before edging Kawempe Muslim Secondary School 1–0 in an epic encounter at Nkondo Grounds. The latest triumph ensured they finished Group C unbeaten and brimming with confidence ahead of the knockout phase.
Coached by Ssali Ronald, Bukedea now turn their focus to the quarterfinals as they await their next opponent.
For the hosts, it was a disappointing campaign. Janan Secondary School failed to register a single goal in the tournament, suffering defeats to Kawempe Muslim (2–0), Mentor SS (3–0), and Bukedea (2–0) to bow out at the group stage.
The Elite Schools Championship will climax on Sunday at Janan Secondary School, where the remaining contenders will battle for top honors.
