The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 and Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo on Monday.
The Level 2 warning covers the highveld of Mpumalanga and central Limpopo, while a more serious Level 4 warning has been issued for the lowveld of Mpumalanga and eastern Limpopo.
SA Weather forecaster, Lehlohonolo Thobela, has warned of heavy downpours that may cause localised flooding, with possible damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning expected later this afternoon.
“We are still expecting cloudy conditions for the low field of Mpumalanga as well as into the eastern part of Limpopo. A 30 to 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected for KwaZulu-Natal, as well as into Gauteng and the eastern parts of North West, stretching to Limpopo, especially for the central parts. However, 80% of chance of showers and thunderstorms will cover the low field of Mpumalanga into the eastern part of Limpopo.”
