The African National Congress (ANC) says all its provincial conferences will have to be concluded by the end of this month.
So far, some provinces have held their regional conferences while others are still struggling to resolve disputes.
Oscar Mabuyane has been touted to lead the Eastern Cape while Dr. Phophi Ramathuba‘s name is gaining support with party structures in Limpopo.
Speaking to SABC News, ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu says despite their end of March deadline, there will be an exception for provinces that still have challenges.
“The ANC expects all provincial conferences including regional conferences to have been concluded by the end of March, after which we will begin with process of councilor candidate selection and election. There maybe very well exceptions to the rule but that determination will be done by the necessary structures led by the Working Committee all the way to the National Executive Committee. ”
