EFF suspends NW councillor for allegedly soliciting sexual favours from rape victim

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the North West says it has suspended one of its councillors in the City of Matlosana Local Municipality, Lesole Malefo, following allegations that he solicited sexual favours from a rape victim, who had approached him for assistance.
The alleged victim reportedly turned to the councillor, after claiming she was not properly assisted at a local police station.
In a video circulating on social media, she expressed frustration over the handling of her case, and alleged that Malefo attempted to take advantage of her vulnerability.
EFF’s provincial secretary Papiki Babuile says the party has taken the allegations seriously, and has initiated processes to suspend the councillor while investigations are under way.
“After listening to the family, we further wrote a letter of suspension to the member of the EFF who also violated this girl. To suspend him and make sure that he faces the disciplinary proceedings of the EFF.”
“We made sure that yesterday we assist in trying to trace the perpetrator. And we can confirm that today after we tried last night to trace him, today he handed himself over to the police,” adds Babuile.
