The Western Cape government has urged the national Department of Agriculture to urgently finalise the implementation of the livestock movement-permitting system.
Premier Alan Winde met with his provincial and municipal leaders earlier this week for an update on the province’s response to the national outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth disease.
Winde says more than 41,000 Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine doses have been administered at 239 vaccination sites across the province.
He says, “We’ve also got private vets now registered in the system and also helping us make sure that we get the numbers and vaccinations across all of the areas of the province, but specifically, focused on any area that is high risk, so that we mitigate and manage Foot-and-Mouth as we move forward. We really do treat this issue very seriously”.
