Residents in parts of NMB continue to face ongoing water outages

Residents in the Western suburbs and parts of the Northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) in the Eastern Cape, are continuing to face ongoing water outages, leaving many households without reliable access to water for the past two weeks.
Bonke Mvimbi says the intermittent supply has disrupted daily life, forcing him to rely on water tankers and bottled water to meet basic needs.
“We are having a terrible time. We are forced to buy bottled water from Checkers, Spar and other retail outlets and often they run out of stock. So, then we are forced to travel out of town for water.”
Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe conducted an oversight visit at the Nooitgedacht Water Treatment Works to assess the situation.

She says there are ongoing interventions to stabilise water supply.
“We are faced with a huge problem; however, we are trying to pump water from our dams. It’s not an easy task.”
