MISA expresses concern over motor vehicle recalls

The Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) has expressed concern over the latest motor vehicle recalls, saying that the frequent incidents are deeply concerning.
This follows Volkswagen South Africa’s recall of over 25 700 VW Polo vehicles sold between February 2025 and February this year, to correct handbrake fittings.

Last year, VW recalled more than 250 Polo Sedan vehicles due to an incorrectly fitted seat belt on the driver’s side.
MISA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says, “MISA is deeply concerned about the sharp increase in vehicle recalls in recent years. While we understand the complex factors driving these recalls, we cannot ignore the impact they have on consumer confidence, and importantly on the credibility of dealerships and sales executives. These workers, who are at the frontlines of customer engagement, bear the brunt of consumer frustration, despite having no control over the manufacturing processes, or the components that lead to recalls.”
