Voter registration set for June 20 and 21: IEC

The Electoral Commission (IEC) Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, has announced that voter registration for this year’s Local Government Elections (LGE) has been set for June 20 and 21.
He announced this at a media briefing in Centurion, Pretoria, on Tuesday.
Mamabolo says the voter registration is intended to maximise opportunities.
He says, “As South Africa’s preparations for the general elections of the municipal council are advancing methodically and nearing key implementation milestones, we must first and foremost remind all South Africans that they are eligible to vote to register where they ordinarily reside, and once the election date has been announced, they must vote where they are registered.”
Mamabolo says, “Importantly, the Electoral Commission hereby announces a voter registration weekend on 20 and 21st June, 2026, to maximise the registration opportunities closer to where voters reside. The intended outcome of the registration weekend is to facilitate access to the franchise and broaden electoral participation.”
