Former Deputy National Police Commissioner for Support Services, Francinah Vuma testifies before Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee.

Vuma says she invoked Protected Disclosures Act during SAPS probe

Former Deputy National Police Commissioner for Support Services Francinah Vuma says she invoked the Protected Disclosures Act for her protection during the investigation of wrongdoings in high profile cases within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Vuma says in 2022 just before her suspension, she briefed the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola about cases which include that of former acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane.
Vuma is testifying before the Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system.
“There were also some of the high-profile cases of Lieutenant-Generals that were pending, in the SSSBC for example there was a case of Lieutenant-General Shezi, there were two cases of Lieutenant General Jacobs. There was also a case of General Phahlane although General Phahlane’s case was not in the SSSBC but was pending in the labour court. So, as and when I explained to the national commissioner about those cases he responded to me, ‘Are you still busy with those cases, why are you not dropping these things and leave them? I would explain the importance of them and why they needed to be finalised.”
