Top police brass, criminal syndicates ties worries Madlanga Inquiry

Commissioner Adv Sandile Khumalo has raised concerns at the Madlanga Commission that top police officials appear to have close relations with members of criminal syndicates.
His comments follow suspended Police’s Organised Crime Head Richard Shibiri’s testimony that he and attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala had a cordial relationship.
Shibiri has testified that Matlala lent him R 70 000 to fix his son’s vehicle.
Khumalo asked Shibiri to place himself in the shoes of families who have lost loved ones to crime.
He says, “Now, if you are a family member of all these crime victims and you are listening to the evidence that the commission is hearing, that head of organised crime in the country and some very senior generals, including the deputy commissioner of police are actually good friends with these people who are alleged to have committed these crimes, what confidence would you have in the police if you are family members of these people who are victims of this crime? What confidence would you have in the police?”
