Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Ex-Boyfriend with Broken Clay Plate

By Robert SegawaShock and grief have engulfed residents of Wakaliga Zone B in Rubaga Division, Kampala District after a 32-year-old woman allegedly killed her former boyfriend using a broken clay plate.

The deceased has been identified as Mike Ssebugwawo, 43, a mechanic and resident of the same area.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, the suspect arrested in connection with the murder is Hadijah Nantongo, who reportedly separated from the deceased in early January 2026.

It is alleged that in the early hours of the morning at around 2:00 a.m., Nantongo fatally stabbed Ssebugwawo inside her single rented room following a fight.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the suspect and the deceased had previously been in a relationship but separated about two months ago. Police further established that at around 1:00 a.m., Ssebugwawo went to Nantongo’s residence after repeatedly calling her phone without receiving a response. Upon arrival, he reportedly found the door locked while another man was inside the room.

The deceased allegedly forced his way into the room, which resulted in a fight. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased in the chest using a sharp, broken clay plate, causing fatal injuries.

Kawala adds that the scene of crime officers from Nateete police station condoned off the place, the deceased was found laying in the pool of blood, samples were corrected, and the exhibit used in the killing was also picked to help in the investigations.

She adds that the suspect is currently at Nateete Police station, while the hunt is on to arrest the man who was inside the room with the suspect.The body of the deceased was transported to the city mortuary Mulago for postmortem.

” We strongly condemn such acts of violence in domestic settings and continue to appeal to victims of domestic violence to report cases of abuse to the police so that appropriate action can be taken.” Kawala says.
