Eastern Cape Finance MEC, Mlungisi Mvoko, has announced a budget of R105 billion for the 2026 and 2027 financial year.
Tabling his Budget Speech at the provincial Legislature in Bhisho, Mvoko announced that R9 billion has been allocated to improve infrastructure in critical sectors as a means to strengthen much-needed service delivery.
The provincial Health and Education Departments have received the lion’s share of the budget of over R100b for Health, while Education gets nearly R150b.
Mvoko says he will align the budget with the provincial priorities that Premier Oscar Mabuyane outlined in the State of the Province Address (SOPA). He says they include the high unemployment.

He says various issues are affecting the delivery of basic services in the province, whose budget is R14.9 billion for this financial year.
“We have had ongoing pressure over the years when it comes to our fiscal situation. Over and above that pressure, there are issues within departments in our province that do not seem to go away. These include accumulated liabilities such as irregular expenditure,” adds Mvoko.
