United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the United States-Israel war on Iran, which is now in its third week.
The war was initiated by coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure and leadership, including the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day.
Strikes target multiple countries, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, overnight with interceptions reported.
Guterres addresses the media in Beirut, Lebanon, calling on the warring parties to stop the war.
“It’s tragic to see this happening in a country that’s contributed so much to world civilization. The Lebanese people did not choose this war they were dragged into it. And my message to the warring parties is clear: Stop the fighting, stop the bombing. There’s no military solution only diplomacy, dialog and full implementation of the UN charter and security council resolutions.”
“Stop the fighting.
Stop the bombing.
There is no military solution.”
