Guard Extolled For Shooting Two Forex Bureau Robbers – Plus News

Moses Odongo, a private security guard deployed by Cheetah Security Company, has been praised by police leadership for his role in thwarting an armed robbery at Tonix Forex Bureau in Bukoto, Nakawa Division, Kampala.

Odongo demonstrated bravery in the early hours of Saturday morning when he shot and injured armed thugs and their motorcycle transporter, preventing a robbery at the Forex Bureau located in Makonzi zone. Police’s Director of Operations, AIGP John Nuwagira, and acting Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime, commended Odongo’s actions in a statement released by Senior Commissioner of Police Fred Enanga.

“The guard was brave and alert on duty, when he fired two shots at two thugs who were vandalizing a Pajero motor vehicle under registration number, UBK 519C, in front of his beat. They fled the scene on their getaway motorcycle,” Enanga said.

Further details revealed that when Odongo’s gunfire scared off the thugs around 1 am, they returned with an armed accomplice on a motorcycle. Despite their return, Odongo remained vigilant and fired shots aimed at their bodies rather than simply attempting to scare them away.

“The thugs returned with a second accomplice who was armed with an AK 47 riffle, hidden in a bag, and tried to break into Tonix Forex Bureau. The guard opened fire at them and injured the rider and the second suspect with a bag, containing the gun,” Kira Road police detectives said in a report sent to police headquarters at Naguru.

Swift response from police officers on night patrol led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with 8 rounds, breaking implements, and the motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer, all of which were exhibited at Kira Road CPS.

Enanga disclosed that Kira Road police identified the suspects as Lawrence Kibuuka, a resident of Mpererwe, who was armed with the gun, and Ivan Musekule, a boda-boda rider, who was injured during the incident.

“The security guard did a commendable job, by disabling the thugs, which foiled the robbery, and also led to the recovery of an AK-47 riffle. We also want to applaud the company, for his level of bravery, tact, and skill,” Enanga said.

Police emphasized that Odongo’s prompt response prevented a robbery and potential loss to the Forex bureau, as well as safeguarded the lives of those potentially affected during the incident. The Uganda Private Security Association (TUPSA) also recognized a guard who thwarted a robbery at a betting company in Kawempe, Kampala.
