A suspect being arrested (courtesy photo) Police in Busoga East on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of Shamiru Wakabi, a resident of Kinyala zone, in Mayuge town council, in Mayuge district over killing his friend, Edirisa Wabwire, aged 26 years.
It is reported that, Wakabi and Wabwire developed misunderstandings at Sobarz bar, located in Tse-Tse zone, in Mayuge town council during the wee-hours of Monday morning.
Wakabi allegedly hit Wabwire in the chest areas, causing him to fall by the fore head and he became unconscious.
This prompted onlookers to rush Wabwire to the neighbouring Muwanguzi clinic as Wakabi fled into hiding.
Wabwire was however confirmed dead moments later and taken to Mayuge health center IV mortuary for postmortem.
Residents embarked on a man hunt for Wakabi with intent of lynching him, however, he surrendered himself to police authorities.
Wakabi is currently detained at Mayuge central police station over alleged murder and substance abuse.
The L.C.1 chairperson of Tse-Tse zone, Yahaya Ikoba says that, Wakabi’s arrest has created sanity in the area, which had turned rowdy over the incident.
Ikoba wants police to intensify operations against dealers in drugs and others substances suspected to be smuggled into Mayuge district through the porus Lake Victoria border points, repacked before being sold out in small quantities to largely youthful populations.
Ikoba suspects that these substances have overtime radicalized the youths, making them prone to criminality.
Meanwhile, the Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula confirms the incident, adding that their teams are summing up enquiries and the suspect will be presented to court before the end of this week.
