National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has repeated that the Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, who is currently placed on special leave, did not consult or inform him about his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
He is a repeat witness before Parliament’s Ad Hoc committee that is looking into matters of national security.
Mchunu disbanded the PKTT on the last day of 2024.
So far, Masemola has stuck to the testimony that he had delivered to the committee when he appeared in October last year.
He told MPs that even during the run-up to the instruction for the disbandment to take place immediately, Mchunu never consulted him on it.
Masemola says, “The 21st, we had a funeral together in Hammersdale, and on 27 December we were together at Nongoma…We spent a day together, and the following day also together…Still, I stand by what I said; at no point did he indicate the imminent disbandment of the PKTT.”
