Police Minister Senzo Mchunu testifies before the Ad Hoc Committee on October 21, 2025.

Mchunu unfit to be Police Minister: Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, says Senzo Mchunu is no longer fit to be Police Minister.
This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s response to the questions of Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee.
Ramaphosa says Mchunu did not consult him about his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team.
Ramaphosa also says Mchunu only informed him in February last year, despite issuing a directive that the disbandment should happen on December 31, 2024.
This was the reaction of Mkhwanazi to the contradiction when he appeared before the committee yesterday: “I am an official … for me to start talking about a decision that the President must take might not be fair. However, having seen what we have seen and having read and listened to what has been presented to these two structures [Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and Ad Hoc Committee] – it’s clear that Minister Mchunu is no longer fit to run this department of police. I don’t know about other departments.”
