The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has claimed victory in all three by-elections held in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.
The hotly contested polls took place in ward 12 in AbaQulusi and in wards 7 and 20 in Nongoma.
All three wards became vacant after the resignation of councillors.
The IFP now holds 23 of the 45 seats in Nongoma Local Municipality, placing it firmly back in control.
Previously, the IFP was governing through a coalition arrangement with the EFF and the National African People’s Front (NAPF).
