Some delegates also expressed satisfaction with the resolutions taken to support both tripartite alliance members, the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Communist Party (SACP), ahead of the Local Government Elections.
One delegate says, “There’s been conflicting views in terms of the SACP and the ANC as well, but look, what we can take back to our members on the ground is that Samwu remains in a space where it’s there to support and lead workers and workers only.”
“We don’t want to get involved in unnecessary issues pertaining to politics and political parties. Yes, there are affiliations, but our main focus at the end of the day is to deal with shop floor issues.”
Another delegate says, “The challenges that are faced by women have been discussed, of which we are very against the gender-based violence (GBV). We’re fighting for their inclusiveness, so they should be included. Perhaps we have two women even now, and we’re working towards having women leadership in national.”
