The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria has heard how Sergeant Fannie Nkosi sent his friend Mpho Lekukela a picture of the late DJ Sumbody, asking him, “Why didn’t you call him to order”?
The text message to Lekukela was sent three days after DJ Sumbody was gunned down in a hail of bullets in November 2022.
Lekukela responds to Sergeant Nkosi saying, “I didn’t know.”
When probed about what the message was about, Sergeant Nkosi told the Commission that he didn’t know. Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga put it to him that he was lying.
“You are lying. That’s the problem. The problem is that you are lying to us. You are lying to us, Sergeant Nkosi. I’ve got no reason to lie. Somebody was close to Mr. Lukukela, and I would not know what exactly we were talking about on that day, or that led me to say these words.”

Benefit from City of Tshwane
Sergeant Nkosi has disputed a proposition that he used his authority and influence to get his friends and family members to benefit from the City of Tshwane.
The Commission learned on Thursday from Nkosi’s WhatsApp communication that he had influenced the Metro’s Chief Financial Officer, Gareth Mnisi, to assist his brother in a multimillion-rand private security tender to protect municipal land and infrastructure.
It also emerged that the Tshwane Metro Police Deputy Chief, Umashi Dlamini, and the City’s Corporate and Shared Services MMC, Kholofelo Morodi, shared, among other things, internal land lease and security tender documents with Nkosi.
In his response to Commissioner Sandile Khumalo’s proposition, Nkosi said he was only trying to help the needy.
