Jinja’S Hotel College Partners with BOMA Hospitality
Africa-Press – Uganda. The Hotel and Tourism Training College (HTTC) has strengthened its regional collaboration efforts following a high-level engagement with a delegation from BOMA International Hospitality College (BIHC).
The visit marks a significant step toward deepening cooperation between the two leading hospitality training institutions, with a shared commitment to advancing skills development and industry alignment across East Africa.
Under the partnership, the institutions agreed to collaborate in key areas including staff and student exchange programmes, internships, and joint research initiatives aimed at improving the quality and relevance of hospitality training.
HTTC Principal Richard Kawere welcomed the partnership, noting that it will play a critical role in enhancing training standards and expanding opportunities for both students and faculty.
“We are excited about this relationship. We remain committed to implementing the memorandum of understanding in its entirety,” he said in remarks delivered by Dean of Academics Emmanuel Kaweesi.
Kawere also commended BIHC for hosting HTTC staff during a recent capacity development programme, highlighting the value of cross-border learning and professional exchange.
The collaboration received support from government, with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities represented by Acting Commissioner for Human Resources Ritah Kabugho, who praised HTTC for fostering international partnerships that strengthen the sector.
“When I return, I will brief the Permanent Secretary on this collaboration,” she said, expressing confidence in its long-term impact.
On his part, BIHC Principal Samuel Irungu emphasized the importance of partnerships in expanding global exposure for students.
“Working with partners opens doors for our students through internships and apprenticeships across different markets,” he noted.
Irungu also highlighted BIHC’s training philosophy, which emphasizes practical industry experience. He noted that instructors are required to have hands-on professional backgrounds, ensuring that students receive instruction grounded in real-world hospitality practice.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange insights on curriculum development, internship frameworks, tuition policies, and evolving training models in the hospitality sector.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of HTTC’s facilities, including the Crested Crane Hotel, the college’s application hotel, which is expected to open to the public and serve as a practical training hub for students.
The partnership reflects a growing trend of regional collaboration in skills development, positioning both institutions to better prepare graduates for the demands of a competitive and increasingly global hospitality industry.
