Ramaphosa vows tough action against corruption

President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned those involved in corrupt activities that they should be ready to face the consequences, with law enforcement agencies now invigorated to deal with malfeasance.
The President was addressing the official Human Rights Day event on Saturday in Kimberley, Northern Cape.  He says the country must get rid of the scourge of corruption.
“Corruption is a scourge we must rid our country of, for corruption not only deprives our people of the basic service they must get, but it also diminishes their humanity. Those who choose the path of corruption must now know that our law enforcement agency will now be more invigorated to come after them. We must rid South Africa of corruption because it diminishes the rights of our people.”
Ramaphosa says South Africans should continue to join hands in building the country they want.
He has acknowledged the challenges facing South Africans but says the current turbulent times should not deter citizens from working hard to ensure that all rights in the Constitution are realised.
“No matter how turbulent the journey that we are on of advancing the dignity that is promised in our Constitution, it is a journey we must take together. In 1996 when the Constitution became law, we made a break with our divided past and must work together for a shared future. We have not yet reached the end of the journey that President Nelson Mandela started us on.”
