Mpumalanga police officer kills female friend, then himself

A 53-year-old police officer has shot and killed a 37-year-old woman before committing suicide at Grootvlei near Balfour, in Mpumalanga. The police captain attached to the Bethal Police Station allegedly forcefully entered the woman’s residence by breaking a window. The deceased has been identified as his female friend.
He apparently chased away the victim’s sister before the shooting incident.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says they have opened an inquest docket and murder case.
“After they refused to open for him, the captain broke the window and entered the house. It is said that he further chased the sister out and was left with the female friend. The sister went to seek help and police were alerted. On arrival, the police found both the captain and his female friend lying on the floor with gunshot wounds,” says Masondo
He says they were both declared dead on the scene and a service pistol that was issued to the captain was found on the scene.
