ANC Eastern Cape to meet over Ngcukaitobi’s letter on irregularities

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape will hold a meeting at the ICC in KuGompo to discuss and deliberate on a letter written by its secretary Lulama Ngcukaitobi to the party’s top brass.
In the letter he cites, the unlawful issuing of QR Codes for Branch General Meetings, membership system manipulation and the inconsistent application of the Step Aside Policy among others.
The letter further reads that he had raised these issues with party Secretary General Fikile Mbalula but he has failed to act. Mbalula has since denied these claims and is also expected to be part of the meeting.
Provincial party spokesperson, Yanga Zicina says they are looking forward to the meeting.
“The Secretary General has written to the Provincial Executive Committee with the intention to have a sit down session together with the National deployees to the Eastern Cape to deliberate on issues contained in the letter from the provincial secretary. That meeting will be held Tuesday the 24th of March with an intention to find resolution to the issues raised.”
Urgent application
An urgent application was filed earlier at the East London High Court in KuGompo to interdict the highly anticipated Provincial Elective Conference in the Eastern Cape, scheduled for Friday.
The applicants argue that the conference cannot go ahead when there are irregularities that still need to be attended to. These include pending disputes over the sitting of Branch General Meetings ahead of the conference, and should conference go ahead it would have been in violation of the ANC’s constitution.
This comes as the as the Provincial Executive Committee had already been given the green light for the conference to take place.
Provincial Party Spokesperson Yanga Zicina said they intend to oppose the application.
“We have seen the interdict which we have received, our lawyers are attending to it, they will file opposing documents tomorrow (Tuesday) and the process that relates to the court will then be unfolding. We will definitely be defending the organisation as we have been called upon to do so as the elected leadership of the ANC.”
