By Kabuye Ronald

Preparations are in high gear for the upcoming National Entrepreneurs and Women Conference organized by the National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association Uganda Women League, scheduled to take place on April 2, 2026, at GNS Hotel in Old Kampala.

The conference, held under the theme “Unlocking Barriers Affecting Women Entrepreneurs,” aims to empower and celebrate the achievements of women in business while fostering growth, collaboration, and inclusiveness in Uganda’s entrepreneurial landscape.

NETA-Uganda, a registered national umbrella body representing over 1,000,000 enterprises across the country, continues to champion business advocacy, growth, and financial inclusion through its ambitious 10-fold growth strategy.

Speaking ahead of the event, Catherine Rujumba, NETA Women leader emphasized that the conference will address critical challenges facing women entrepreneurs.

“With the theme and purpose in mind, we’ll be addressing key issues such as access to finance, markets, and policy frameworks that impact women in business. We are also exploring ways to establish a dedicated fund to tackle financial challenges faced by women entrepreneurs,” she said.

Rujumba added that the conference will also include sensitization sessions on non-communicable diseases affecting women in business, highlighting the importance of health alongside economic empowerment. She further noted that exhibition spaces are available at NETA offices for interested participants.

She commended government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and GROW project but called for more accessible programs.

“We urge for more deliberate interventions that are easy to access without stringent requirements like collateral. We also call upon commercial banks to consider women-friendly financial facilities, including collateral-free loans. Creating a conducive environment for women entrepreneurs is key to inclusive economic development and leadership,” Rujumba added.

Meanwhile, Esther Namuddu underscored the central role women play in trade and entrepreneurship.

“There is no trade and entrepreneurship without women. They contribute immensely to the country’s economy, and through this conference, many challenges will be addressed and practical solutions provided,” she said.

Namuddu also revealed that the conference will recognize and award outstanding women entrepreneurs who have made significant contributions in their respective industries.

“We invite the general public to nominate deserving women for recognition. You can visit (www.netuganda.com), email netauganda@gmail.com, or visit NETA secretariat for more information.” she noted.

The conference is expected to attract entrepreneurs, policymakers, financial institutions, and development partners, all committed to advancing women’s economic empowerment in Uganda.
