A multi-disciplinary law enforcement team moved in to intercept the suspects’ vehicle, leading to a high-speed chase and a shootout.
Three unlicensed firearms were recovered at the scene.
Gauteng Police Spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili says investigations into the suspects’ possible links to other crimes are ongoing.
“When this suspect realised that the police were following them, they wanted to get out of the situation and they started shooting at the police, and then the police retaliated and this resulted in four fatalities and one injury. Fortunately there is no injuries with regards to the police officers or the private security companies which were involved.”
