The African National Congress (ANC) has reaffirmed its confidence in Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula after AfriForum released what it calls a dossier containing allegations against him.
This comes after AfriForum said Mbalula must answer serious allegations of fraud, corruption and money laundering linked to a 2016 Dubai holiday contained in the “Mbalula Dossier”.
In a statement, the ANC rejected the document as a politically motivated smear campaign.
The party says the move is aimed at discrediting Mbalula and the ANC leadership.
It has also accused AfriForum of spreading misinformation and undermining transformation.
However, AfriFrum says the document forms part of its bid to pursue accountability of Mbalula through South Africa’s legal processes.
CEO Kallie Kriel says the matter should not be ignored.
“The reason why we had to do this is that we’ve seen in the National Prosecuting Authority over many years, political interference that prevented people in high positions with political connections from being prosecuted. And that is the work we are doing”, he says.
